UNTITLED FIGURE SKATING MOVIE
Writer/Director
Logline:
When a fourteen year-old figure skater wins the chance to train with a famous coach, she must fight her self-destructive anxiety disorder, or sabotage her career.
Synopsis:
When Dani discovers that renowned coach Andrei Cousins is attending the MN State Figure Skating Championships, she convinces him to train her at Lake Arrowhead training center, hoping he will help rid her of the extreme anxiety that has plagued her fledgling career. At Arrowhead, her battles with her inner demons take over and her junior coach Rohene is helpless to assist. Andrei leads Rohene and Dani in a secret midnight ritual to purge Dani of her disorder. It works, and Dani and Rohene are sucked into an intense and controversial training relationship with Andrei that tests Dani’s understanding of skating and of her self.
Director's Statement:
I want to show figure skating like it’s never been seen, both thematically as well as visually. The tone will be intense, sexy, unnerving and sometimes humorous. Through that high stakes world of athletic discipline, physical beauty, and intense competition I want to explore how a very young woman can discover her own voice and her own power. This story will push the world of figure skating to the edge of the surreal, with the main coach, Andrei, acting almost like a spiritual guru, seeking devotion and an experience of the sublime through the sport. Dani must find her own power within Andrei’s culture of domination, erotic manipulation and psychological violence.
